Invocation Guidelines:

In many Rotary clubs, particularly in Judeo Christian nations, it is customary to open weekly meetings with an appropriate invocation or blessing. Usually such invocations are offered without reference to specific religious denominations or faiths.

Rotary policy recognizes that throughout the world Rotarians represent many religious beliefs, ideas and creeds. The religious beliefs of each member are fully respected, and nothing in Rotary is intended to prevent each individual from being faithful to such convictions.

Since each Rotary club is autonomous, the practice of presenting a prayer or invocation at club meetings is left entirely to the traditions and customs of the individual club, with the understanding that these meeting rituals always be conducted in a manner which will respect the religious convictions and faiths of all members.

2008-9 Club Administration:

2009-10 DISTRICT GOVERNOR: Dick Jones, Rotary Club of Santa Fe

The Rotary District Governor performs a very significant function in the world of Rotary. He or she is the single officer of Rotary photo of Dick JonesInternational in the geographic area called a Rotary district, which usually includes about 45 Rotary clubs. The district governors, who have been extensively trained at the worldwide International Assembly, provide the "quality control" for the 27,000 Rotary clubs of the world. They are responsible for maintaining high performance within the clubs of their district.

The district governor, who must make an official visit to each club in the district, is never regarded as an "inspector general." Rather, he or she visits as a helpful and friendly adviser to the club officers, as a useful counselor to further the Object of Rotary among the clubs of the district, and as a catalyst to help strengthen the programs of Rotary.

Dick and Lorraine Jones

The district governor is a very experienced Rotarian who generously devotes a year to the volunteer task of leadership. The governor has a wealth of knowledge about current Rotary programs, purposes, policies and goals and is a person of recognized high standing in his or her profession, community and Rotary club. The governor must supervise the organization of new clubs and strengthen existing ones. He or she performs a host of specific duties to assure that the quality of Rotary does not falter in the district, and is responsible to promote and implement all programs and activities of the Rotary International president and the RI Board of Directors. The governor plans and directs a district conference and other special events.

Each district governor performs a very important role in the worldwide operations of Rotary.

The district governor is truly a prime example of Service Above Self performing a labor of love.

Santa Fe club has been the source of four district governors.

River Stewardship Adopt a River sign

The Santa Fe River clean up team continues to venture out to our adopted area between Galisteo Street and Sandoval Street to make it more beautiful. If you would like to help, Ouida MacGregor can tell you the monthly schedule. Given the recent groundswell of support in our community to save the Santa Fe River, we are forming an additional committee to consider applying for an HHH RI Grant.

Reading in the Schools bookplates

A sample of the bookplates produced by the club to be used when a book is gifted to students in the reading program.

Since 2006 Rotarians have been reading to students in Santa Fe elementary schools and giving gifts of field trips to Collected Works Bookstore to choose books for themselves and their classroom libraries.
There is now a large assortment of books purchased by a combination of District Simplified Grant funds and community donations. Rotary Reads at Pinon , Chaparral and, Kaune Elementary. Rotarians buy books at Collected Works Bookstore, read them to students, and then donate them to their students' classroom libraries.

Collected Works books and Dorothy Massey

< Dorothy Massey with Collected Works Bookstore shows just SOME of the books donated by Rotarians. Thanks Dorothy for all you do!

Every May several classes will be rewarded for outstanding efforts in reading which includes a trip to the bookstore so that each child can choose a book to take home, a duplicate of which will be purchased for that child's classroom library. A Rotary District Simplified Grant has helped fund this for two years, along with contributions from community members. In 2008 a total of 15 classes, along with lots of parent chaperones, will join in this festive activity, every day for two weeks in May. For the next two years, a generous grant of $10,000 from the McCune Charitable Foundation will allow this program to include another school. We are truly blessed to receive this financial support, and Rotarians are proving themselves once again a blessing in this community as they share the joys of literacy with our students.

Rotary Reads - Three Schools in 2008 - Members of the Rotary Club of Santa Fe have been joined this year by members of Rotary del Sur and Rotary Centro, along with former Rotarians, friends, and spouses, to take the joys of adults-reading-to-kids into Santa Fe Public Schools classrooms.  Nearly 30 volunteers (so far) will read to and with students at Pinon, Chaparral, and Kaune elementary schools as part of the highly successful Rotary Reads project, now in its third year.  Readers will purchase age-appropriate books at Collected Works Bookstore, our project partner, and once read to the students, the books will be added to the children's classroom libraries. The classes that read the most (as determined by school criteria) will take field trips at the end of the school year to Collected Works, where each student will choose a book, with a duplicate purchased for the children's classroom libraries.  Thanks to District 5520 Simplified Grants, the donations of local citizens, and a significant grant from the McCune Charitable Foundation, this continuing growth of the end-of-year awards is made possible.  And thanks to Partners in Education, which provides the buses for the field trips, slated for 22 in May 2009. Discussions continue to involve Santa Fe's Literacy Volunteers and our own club's Interact clubs at Santa Fe and Capital high schools as during-school and after-school readers. For more information, or to volunteer, call Lorraine Goldman at 473-2821.

The Immunization Coalition and the Santa Fe Run Around

Runaround TShirtThe Santa Fe Immunization Coalition was formed in 2003. The Coalition helped to create a statewide immunization data base. It has sponsored church based, school based and Wal-Mart based clinics. We have:

  1. provided funding and volunteers to support WIC (Womens, Infants, Children) monthly clinics.
  2. sponsored several health care provider educational events in connection with National Immunization Days.
  3. provided funding and support for in school shot clinics at the beginning of the school year.
  4. provided needed immunizations for graduating seniors.
All three Santa Fe Rotary clubs have provided volunteers and funding since 2003 to support these activities. More »

Musical Instrumentsmusical instruments

We have a request from Santa Fe High for 12 Guitars and from Capital for 12 Guitars for their Guitar classes and Mariachi Pro-grams. We can purchase each of these $200.00 Guitars through our
Rotary friends in Las Vegas, Nevada for about $100.00 each.
What we need is your tax deductible donations to “The Rotary Club of Santa Fe Foundation” “marked “Guitar Fund”. When the fund gets up to $2,500.00 we will buy the Guitars and deliver them to the schools. Don Kemp in Las Vegas runs a music store and has a great distributor that will deliver them at or below cost because it is Rotary and we support beginning Guitar players in Santa Fe.
