Good News Basket Recipient info: The Cancer Institute Foundation is a non-profit organization. Their mission is to provide support services for patients, families, and caregivers, and educational programs for our community. They are committed to improving the health of New Mexicans by providing leadership and partnership in cancer education, prevention, and screening programs as part of the New Mexico health care community. They are New Mexicans helping New Mexicans. Since the Foundation was formed in 2003, they have provided over 1,000 free overnight stays in local hotels for patients undergoing treatment, more than 100,000 miles of travel assistance and 10,000 hours of trained volunteer services for patients and their families. For the entire community they have offered free breast and prostate cancer screenings, dozens of talks by physicians and a variety of educational events.    See list of all recipients »

LA RUEDA SUBMISSIONS ARE NOW DUE ON FRIDAYS AT NOON FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK. 

  • Below is the slate of officers for next year to be presented to the club at Thursday’s meeting and voted on in December by the club. Other nominations from the floor can be made. The slate of officers, presented by the nominating committee for 2009-2010, is as follows:

    President Elect – Tim Butler
    Treasurer – Vic Brenneisen
    Helen Doherty – 2 year term
    Emilie McIntyre – 1 year term
    Bernie Toobin – 2 year term
    Brant Goodman – 1 year term

    Board Members continuing their term:

  • ROTARY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED EACH WEEK PRIOR TO WEEKLY MEETING - Volunteers are needed to check room set-up prior to the beginning of the meeting each week.  We have experienced meetings where the flag was missing or essential table topper information was not on the tables.  The hotel and front desk have the responsibility for these tasks but we need a couple of volunteers each week to double-check the room.  Please see Gene Tomlinson if you could help.

< Join the Fun Committee! We usually have meetings prior to the regular lunchtime meetings, bring your ideas for fun events. Get a make-up for attending meetings and fun events. Email Tracy to join or come to the next meeting -TBA.

REPORTING ROTARIAN ILLNESS AND DEATH INFORMATION IN LA RUEDA AND/OR WEBSITE – It has been determined by the Rotary Board of Directors that information regarding Rotarian death, illness, or absences from the club is to be directed to the Club President.  This information can be passed along to members at the club meetings by the Club President. Information will be published in La Rueda or on the website only if specific permission is given.

ROTARY CARES. Should you have a personal situation or know of a fellow Rotarian suffering from a personal situation, such as illness, etc., Rotary wants to know about it, if you feel like sharing. Please contact Club President Lleta Scoggins at 982-4623. As a Rotary family our club cares about our members, and wants to be there in support of our members.

 

Update as to How to Submit Information for Rotary club news:

All submissions should go to Jeff Browne, editor, at publishernnm@naturalawakeningsmag.com.
1. For our club website:

  • Includes weekly La Rueda club meeting information; club related announcements; committee meeting announcements; club events; committee information, etc.
  • We are adding a new department “Member News” to our website,  that can be non-Rotary related, but personal/business information about club members that they would like other members to know about. Vic Brenneisen and Larry Haslam will be monitoring
  • Information is updated by Monday for the current meeting week. Please have submission emailed by Friday noon, the day after club meeting.

2. For our monthly newsletter:

  • This should be Rotary related newsworthy information about committee happenings, club projects, club events, or success stories you would like to see published in our monthly online newsletter. This newsletter will be available on line and for guests to our club in a printed version.
  • Newsletter is available on the 1st of each month. Please submit information for newsletter by email no later than the 20th of the preceding month.

Do you have photos you would like to share? Simply submit them to the webmaster and we'll get them posted as soon as possible.

For any members that have any special dietary needs, it is our goal to meet those needs if possible.  Please email Grady Utley at gutley@farmersagent.com with your request!
