ROTARY CLUB REMINDER ROTARY AND POLITICS: RI and its member clubs must refrain from issuing partisan political statements. Rotarians are prohibited from adopting statements with a view to exerting any corporate pressure on governments or political authorities. However, it is the duty of Rotarians:
1) In their clubs, to keep under review political developments in their own communities and throughout the world insofar as they affect service to their vocations and communities as well as the pursuit of the Rotary objective of world understanding and peace. They are expected to seek reliable information through balanced programs and discussions so that members can reach their own conclusions after the fair collective examination of the issues.
2) Outside their clubs, to be active as individuals in as many legally constituted groups and organizations as possible to promote, not only in words but through exemplary dedication, the awareness of the dignity of all people and the respect of the consequent human rights of the individual.
The Club Leadership Plan is an extension of the highly successful District Leadership Plan. The plan lists nine steps for strengthening clubs and includes developing a long-range plan, ensuring clear communication among club and district leaders, and providing opportunities for increased fellowship among club members. Club leaders are encouraged to seek the support of their assistant governors to determine how best to implement these procedures. It should also be noted that Club Service is perhaps the first and best indoctrination for all new members when accepted in membership.

Rotary Launches “Member News” Web Page – The Rotary Club of Santa Fe is in the process of launching a new web page for “Member News”, not to replace Good News Basket announcements, but an additional opportunity to share information about members that other Rotarians may like to know, concerning events in the lives of our members! Items appropriate for Member News are: Births, Marriages, Graduations and Reunions, Career or Business Changes, Family Accomplishments, Travel, Personal Achievements and Recognitions. Items concerning business should be newsworthy information and not self-promoting. Items not appropriate for submission are death, illness, political commentary. Communication of death and illness will be handled on a case-by-case basis through the Rotary Club president, Lleta Scoggins. This Member News program is being managed by Rotarians Vic Brenneisen and Larry Haslam. Submissions to Member News should be up to 50 words in length, and submitted to Vic Brenneisen at vicbrenn@aol.com.
ROTARY CARES. Should you have a personal situation or know of a fellow Rotarian suffering from a personal situation, such as illness, etc., Rotary wants to know about it, if you feel like sharing. Please contact Club President Lleta Scoggins at 982-4623. As a Rotary family our club cares about our members, and wants to be there in support of our members.

HONORARY MEMBERSHIP
"Honorary" is one of the four types of membership a person may have in a Rotary club. This type of membership is the highest distinction a Rotary club can confer and is exercised only in exceptional cases to recognize an individual for unusual service and contributions to Rotary and society. An honorary member is elected for one year only, and continuing membership must be renewed annually.
Honorary members cannot propose new members to the club, do not hold office and are exempt from attendance requirements and club dues.
Many distinguished heads of state, explorers, authors, musicians, astronauts and other public personalities have been honorary members of Rotary clubs, including King Gustaf of Sweden, King George VI of England, King Badouin of Belgium, King Hassan III of Morocco, Sir Winston Churchill, humanitarian Albert Schweitzer, Charles Lindbergh, composer Jean Sibelius, explorer Sir Edmund Hillary, Thor Heyerdahl, Thomas Edison, Walt Disney, Bob Hope, Dr. Albert Sabin, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and many of the presidents of the United States. Truly, those selected for honorary membership are those who have done much to further the ideals of Rotary.
Update:
Rotary no longer has a senior active classification. As of the 2001 Council on Legislation, only two membership categories exist: active and honorary. Rotarians who have retired may retain the same classification, but they aren't counted in the total number of members in a classification.
