SPONSOR REQUIREMENTS
AND INSTRUCTIONS:
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

4 Way Test
As sponsor of the new member candidate, you are responsible for advising the candidate of Rotary's attendance requirements, and keeping your candidate informed during the proposal and induction processes. The candidate must attend four regular club meetings before you submit the proposal documents.
You are also responsible for making certain that the candidate promptly attends the club’s new member orientation session. You will be required to attend the orientation session with the candidate. Please note that orientation must be completed before the candidate’s name can be published in La Rueda, and the candidate can be inducted.
After the new member is inducted, you are responsible for making sure he or she comes to meetings, gets involved in at least two committees or club activities, and generally for assuring that the new member's initial experiences in the club are successful and gratifying. Finally, you should make certain the new Rotarian achieves “Blue Badge” status within one year of induction.

HOW TO PROPOSE A NEW MEMBER
To propose a new member for the Rotary Club of Santa Fe,
please do the following:

Please read the following general information.

Every Rotarian has the privilege and obligation of seeking qualified new members. In this way all club members can help their clubs achieve a full representation of the business and professional life of the community.
General Qualifications — Rotarians are adults of good character and good business or professional reputation, who hold or have held an executive position with discretionary authority in any worthy and recognized business or profession.
Active Membership — Active members must meet the above qualifications, as well as live or work within the club’s locality or surrounding area.
Honorary Membership— People who have distinguished themselves by meritorious service in the furtherance of Rotary ideals may be elected to honorary membership.
Classification — Each active member of a Rotary club is classified in accordance with the member’s business or profession. A classification describes the principal and recognized activity of the firm with which an active member is connected or the member’s principal and recognized business or professional activity.
NOTE #1— Holders of public office. Persons elected or appointed to public office for a specified time are not eligible for active membership under the classification of such office, except persons elected or appointed to the judiciary or educational offices.
NOTE #2 — Proposals for membership are subject to an approval process by the Rotary Club and its Board of Directors; therefore, proposal does not guarantee membership.
In seeking to attract potential members to our club sponsors should be mindful of certain criteria the club has endorsed in its efforts to build a well-rounded, active, and effective membership. At a minimum a sponsor should be satisfied that a candidate meets the qualifications stated above, meets the Rotary Four-Way Test and has demonstrated a willingness to be active in club affairs. The Membership Development Committee will also look more favorably upon candidates who fill under-represented classifications; candidates who bring greater diversity and/or youth to the club; candidates who not only are leaders in their chosen field, but also have shown a willingness to be active in the community; and candidates proposed by members who are themselves active in the club.
Rotary Club logoThe club Membership Development Committee will act on your proposal at its next regular meeting after its receipt of your proposal, and then will forward the proposal and the committee’s recommendations to the club Board for approval. At the Board's discretion, the candidate may be approved, may be referred to another club, or may be encouraged to reapply at a later time. The Membership Development Committee chairperson will notify you immediately thereafter of the Board's decision. Assuming that the proposal is accepted, the Membership Development Committee will advise you as to the classification granted to the candidate, and the membership type. The candidate's name will be published in the La Rueda newsletter; if within ten days after publication there has been no written objection from any current club member in good standing, then the candidate is officially accepted for membership. You should then notify your candidate.

  1. Make sure that the candidate meets the following criteria for membership in the Rotary Club of Santa Fe
  2. Candidate meets the Rotary Four-Way Test:

The Rotary Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do: 1) Is it the TRUTH? 2) Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3) Will it build GOODWILL and better FRIENDSHIPS? 4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
